11/6/07 - no radiohypno this week…BUT….
by hypno on November 6th, 2007
as regular listeners know, i usually prepare the music found here on radiohypno for your listening pleasure. well, for the first time (and hopefully not the last), i want to use this site to point out some music outside this site that is very well worth your attention…so much so that i will forego the standard weekly show and insist that you download this:
Saul Williams - THE INEVITABLE RISE AND LIBERATION OF NIGGYTARDUST!
performed by Saul Williams (musician/poet/actor), produced by Trent Reznor, mixed by Alan Moulder…the album is great musically, and hearing a voice other than Reznor against what is clearly his musical direction is interesting and challenging.
additionally, i want the release to be successful for this artist and any that come after him. self-supported, self-sustaining, self-directed music artists have never had more opportunity to succeed and make a living from their art inside or outside the “mainstream” than they do at this very moment. by self-releasing and distributing this work using the same model that a “superstar act” like Radiohead has done recently, this is a chance to prove that this model can work for artists who haven’t had the benefit of 10+ years of major-label distribution and marketing dollars behind them.*
please, support this artist, and be a part of the changing of the guard in the music industry.

* - yes, i know, having Trent Reznor as your producer/marketing dept. doesn’t exaclty qualify you for “starving artist” status, but still…this is NOT the same thing as a Nine Inch Nails release. the $5 is worth it to hear saul’s cover of “sunday bloody sunday” alone.

back from the dead…for the day of the undead!
thanks, all, for tolerating the brief hiatus. i’m still dealing with getting studiohypno in some form of usability, and other events have transpired to keep me away for a month…but we’re rising from the 3 foot deep grave to resurrect some techno goodies and treat your ears with one of my most hotly anticipated guest mixes yet!!! this episode of radiohypno sees our airwaves taken over by the mixmaster known to the world as Thomas D. Cox.
those who know him will tell you…Tom is as opinionated as they come. his philosophy is simple: there’s “good music” and “bad music”. it’s a damn good thing he has impeccable taste. there is no “filler” here.
Tom is one of the staff of 720 Records, one of the few places left in the city of Steel where you can buy new vinyl (visit them online! plug plug plug!), he is also the proprietor of infintestatemachine.com, which has quickly become a worldwide source for hot techno news and reviews. please to be adding them to your ever-growing list of “must-reads”.
Tom has this to say about his mix:
“This is a techno mix like my favorite techno deejays taught me: Carl Craig, Shake, etc. I always do the kind of “house” themed joints that draw from jazz, disco, soul…the way “house” was originally started! And the same thing was true for techno, so i decided to do this mix like that, playing all the individual sounds that birthed techno as well as pure techno records.”
this is a perfect mix for a 21st century halloween party. download this and turn it up loud as hell!

so i’m still getting things situated in studiohypno. i’m back up and running with primary computer, and i’ve got a vast array of softwares installed…not 100% to where i was pre-crash-tastic-ness, but the smoking crater has been snuffed, so-to-speak. (if anyone knows where i can score a micro-atx case and board for a socket-478 P4 2.4 ghz processor, drop me a note!)
enough fooishness! we have “SERIOUS BUSINESS” (©2007 hypnoindustries) to discuss. MUSIC! NEW YORKERS! MEN WITH TATTOOS! all of these things point me to ryan “shep” shepard, yet another talented friend and would-be dj, having a go at seducing your eardrums for this week’s radiohypno.
born and bred amongst the steel wool mines of western new york, mr. shepard sports a long, illustrious and varied resume: i’m reasonably sure he did some time in a branch of the military…he did something with web coding at one point, only to up and leave that world behind and pursue a career in his true love - the culinary arts. SRSLY, the boy can cook something fierce. he’s been named “deputy commissioner of tailgating”. he’s an award winning web admin. he’s recorded music. he’s been in a real, honest to god theatrical movie. he’s behind you right now.
ok, i believe that everything but the last sentence was true. (but you never know..he MIGHT be behind you…it depends on which way you’re facing.) to boot, he’s one hell of a guy, and he’s put together a stunning mix that i can see getting lots of spins from lots of different types of people…which is one of the things i love most about this little sociological art project i’m trying to foist upon the world.
i hope you enjoy this mix as much as i have been.

aaaahhhhh…back from vacation in La La Land, (mostly) sane and well rested, and ready to drop yet another incredible mix on the masses. to make up for the dead air last week, i bestow upon you a double-sized show…TWO FULL HOURS, PEOPLE.
i give too much.
and once again, i will gush about the absolute top-notch quality of music provided by this week’s guest, count zer0. with over 10 years’ experience behind the tables rocking dancefloors all over the mid-atlantic region, frank picks tunes that are far from obvious, but nonetheless powerful, moving, soulful and absolutely define the term “just right”. using the finest in house and techno from the last 15 years, prepare to be taken on a trip with this mix.
my first thought while listening to this mix was, “good GOD…i want to hear this on a huge, pumping p.a. system!” this mix is so damn good, you want to feel it in your no-no-places
adding to the idea of a musical journey there’s no tracklist for this week’s mix. just plop this one in your eardrums and let yourself be amazed. (if you’re interested in hunting down a particular song, leave a comment and i’ll make sure it gets to the proper authority. fuckin’ trainspotters….)
for the audiophiles in the house, or those of you simply interested in a higher-quality copy of this mix, it’s available over at his website, deejaycountzer0.com along with plenty of his other mixes from the last 10 years in a variety of styles and genres.
